According to Webster’s Dictionary motivation can be defined as, “having a strong reason to act or accomplish something.” What makes motivation special, though, is the reason that drives each individual to put their thoughts into action. So I wanted to frame this blog around one big question: What motivates you?
Mitch Wiggins is a client at Elite Custom Fitness who appreciates the benefits of training in his everyday life. He is a 19-year-old student at Butler County Community College’s Cranberry Campus whose current ambitions are to transfer to the University of Wisconsin in order to pursue a career in forestry. He is a nature lover and working out at the gym is a good way to stay fit for hikes.
Everyone has something that motivates them to succeed; to be better. For some people it happens naturally and for others, it takes a little more soul searching to find what truly ignites their motivation. For me, it happened without any second guessing. My motivation came from the gift that Shylynn and I received on June 26, 2017 when my son, Ezekiel Jones, was born.
As two Pittsburghers, my wife and I only cross the Pennsylvania/Ohio border for a few reasons, and one of the biggest is to visit and learn from some of the best in the strength and conditioning industry. As gym owners, we are always looking to further our knowledge on how to effectively educate our clients on building strength and reaching their individual goals. Elitefts has had a huge hand in helping us with that. I have been an avid fan and supporter of elitefts for many years, and through coming into my life, my wife has grown to love and appreciate it just as much as I do. So it goes without saying that when I saw this opportunity present itself, my wife and I knew we had to attend the UGSS with John Meadows.
Looking back on it now, making that decision was one of the scariest and riskiest things I have ever done. I was young, had no experience or education in running a business, and had a lot of odds against me. On top of that, people had a lot to say about my decision.
“I appreciate you”... This was said to me today after finishing up a training session with a long time client and friend of mine, Michelle Parolini. It’s amazing how a few short words can have such a profound impact. Hearing those words today felt different than the other times I have heard them, though, because today was a different type of training session with Michelle. This session had a ton of meaning behind it for a variety of different reasons.
With new year quickly approaching, there will be many people that commit to resolutions that involve an attempt to start living a healthier lifestyle. Whether that be adding in a work-out routine, making better choices with eating, or simply trying to reach a healthier balance between their mind and body, it will happen.
Although I am all about taking a different approach to the typical "new years resolution" (see my latest blog post on making your new year revolutionary), I think it's worthwhile to provide some insight on what can make your fitness-related resolutions/goals a jumping point toward a long-term lifestyle change rather than just being a short term goal that you achieve and forget....
New Years isn't just an opportunity to make resolutions, it's a time to challenge yourself to grow as an individual.
I can't help but gush about my husband and the handwork he puts in everyday... Here's a little comeback blog about how proud I am of him and his business that continues to grow day by day. Check it out and give it some love.
Since Elite Custom Fitness' start four years ago, the gym has grown from 8 or so clients to about 40 (and growing). Tim has put his heart and soul into the gym and making it a bad ass place for people to not only train hard, but build a strong bond within the ECF community. We are excited to announce that there will be some huge changes to the gym that will allow for clients to have more equipment at their fingertips, more space, and more flexibility in the type of support they receive from our trainers!
You've heard it time and time again... There are people that "train", and people that "work out". Josh explains the difference between the two. It's not necessarily in the actual definitions, but rather the mentality that comes with them.
