The Importance of Sleep and Weight Loss

I see it all the time.  People struggling to lose weight, claiming they are doing everything right.  Their nutrition is on point and they’re training every single day.  Waking up at 4:30 in the morning to get their training in and planning their meals out to a tee and still no weight loss.  They say, “But I am doing everything right!? Should I eat less and train more?!”  No!!! The answer is no.

If We Work For It, We Will Get There

Recently, Freddie and Jen competed at the 6th Annual USPA Bar Fight in West Virginia. Both Freddie and Jen wanted to tell their story leading up to the battle and then following their experience.

Here is Freddie’s take on his fourth meet as a powerlifter.

"Why Not?"- Jennifer Gross

This upcoming week, the ECF Team will be competing in West Virginia for another USPA Powerlifting Meet: USPA Bar Fight. The team has been working hard to prepare for this meet, and we asked some of them to write about their experience training and competing as a way to showcase their hard work and the reality of training as a lifestyle.

The Importance of Sled Work

Every client that walks through our doors starts their training session the same way- some form of sled work. I believe that sled work is something that is non-negotiable to any comprehensive and effective strength and conditioning program (if you have access to it). Many commercial facilities have your typical “cardio equipment”, but lack turf and space for sleds. At ECF we have a handful of different sled options that allow our clients many sled work variations.  Overall, there are many benefits to sled work and adding it to your programming.

Strong Building Blocks Create a Stronger Foundation

99 percent of people that walk into Elite Custom Fitness do not know how to move properly.  I am talking everyone from an 11 year soccer player (understandable) to a college athlete (not acceptable) to a 45 year old man that has had 3 coaches before walking into the doors (understandable but not acceptable).

Benefits of Weight Training for Women

I wanted to shed some light on the benefits that I have seen first hand in training a variety of different women over the years. Regardless of their experience level, these benefits apply to anyone that lets go of the misconceptions surrounding women and weights, and says "YES" to weight training.

What is Motivation?

According to Webster’s Dictionary motivation can be defined as, “having a strong reason to act or accomplish something.” What makes motivation special, though, is the reason that drives each individual to put their thoughts into action. So I wanted to frame this blog around one big question: What motivates you?

My Motivation

Everyone has something that motivates them to succeed; to be better. For some people it happens naturally and for others, it takes a little more soul searching to find what truly ignites their motivation. For me, it happened without any second guessing. My motivation came from the gift that Shylynn and I received on June 26, 2017 when my son, Ezekiel Jones, was born.

Our Experience at EliteFTS

Our Experience at EliteFTS

As two Pittsburghers, my wife and I only cross the Pennsylvania/Ohio border for a few reasons, and one of the biggest is to visit and learn from some of the best in the strength and conditioning industry. As gym owners, we are always looking to further our knowledge on how to effectively educate our clients on building strength and reaching their individual goals. Elitefts has had a huge hand in helping us with that. I have been an avid fan and supporter of elitefts for many years, and through coming into my life, my wife has grown to love and appreciate it just as much as I do. So it goes without saying that when I saw this opportunity present itself, my wife and I knew we had to attend the UGSS with John Meadows.
